Dental Implants
Dental implants are fast becoming the preferred way to replace a lost tooth. There are three parts to a dental implant: 1) a titanium post (the implant) which is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the root of the missing natural tooth, 2) a titanium platform (the abutment) which connects into the implant and emerges out through the gum tissue, and 3) a porcelain crown which is secured over the abutment and replaces the portion of the tooth that is visible in the mouth.
After the titanium post (implant) is placed into the jawbone it will become firmly fused in place by a process called osseointegration. This healing process usually takes place over a period of 3-6 months. Traditionally the implant is covered by the gum tissue during this healing process. In some special cases, it is possible to attach a crown onto the implant on the same day that it is placed.
Doctor Burton is trained and qualified to perform both the surgical placement and the final restoration of most dental implants cases all right here in our Eden office. They will design your new tooth crown based upon your preferences and aesthetic desires. Once the new implant is fully healed and the crown placed, it will look, function, feel like a natural tooth. Although implants are meant to last a lifetime, they require proper care and hygiene just like a natural tooth in order to remain healthy. Please contact our office with any questions and come in for a consultation to find out if dental implants are an good option for you.
